Working Boca Ciega Bay, Old Tampa Bay, Clearwater Harbor and St. Joseph Sound. Pinellas is a peninsula, which means almost everything is within a few miles of navigable water and the density of stored, moored and forgotten boats is very high for the land area. The Gulf beaches side is shallow, bridge-constrained and full of moderate-draft boats; the Tampa Bay side has the deeper water and the working yards. Tarpon Springs at the north end is a genuine working waterfront with commercial hulls that end up needing removal.
The local constraint. Draft and bridge clearance are the recurring problems. The Intracoastal through Boca Ciega and Clearwater Harbor is shallow and the fixed bridges are low - a tall-rig sailboat frequently cannot get to the yard that could lift it, which changes the whole approach.
